Tailgates
Army Lax Parents' tailgates are renowned in the lax
world. Both our
home and away tailgates
are
open to all
Army Lacrosse players, coaches,
personnel, parents, family, and friends; recruits
and their families; lax alums; and friends of Army
Lacrosse who come to our games.
Before you attend a tailgate, though, please make
sure to read this page so you are familiar with our
tailgate practices and etiquette.
In addition,
Coach Alberici and the USMA Administration request that
alcoholic beverages not be consumed at Army Lacrosse
tailgates, at home or away.
To find out specific plans for a particular
tailgate, scroll down to the list of
scrimmages and games at the bottom of this page and click on the appropriate link.
General Army Lax
Tailgate Information
Beverages
& paper goods.
We still need a volunteer to be
in charge of paper goods and another parent will
make sure we have beverages and ice this year. Even
so, many parents elect to bring extra beverages and
any special paper products required to serve the
food they contribute.
What
food to bring.
Home
or away, the boys will enjoy
anything and everything that you bring. We
ask that each ArmyLaxParent family bring a main
course and another dish, either an appetizer or a
dessert, to each tailgate.
Here
are some ideas: hors d'oeuvres of any kind, soups,
chili, goulash, lasagna, macaroni and cheese, or any
pasta dishes, sausage and peppers, chicken and rice,
meatballs, fried chicken, spare ribs and any other
hearty meat dishes to warm us up in the cold
weather!!! As the weather warms later in the season,
you can move
from the heavy pasta dishes to picnic-type items
such as hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, potato
or pasta salads, etc. Another idea is to bring your cadet's
favorite dish.
When planning for a particular tailgate, keep in
mind the facilities we may or may not have to heat
food.
We will have grills and portable stoves going at some tailgates.
Check
each game's tailgate information page to find
out what facilities we will have or will be allowed
to bring and set up. For home game tailgates, food
can be heated in the Firstie Club kitchen's ovens or
crock pots, etc. can be plugged in. Grills can be
set up on the patio.
How
much to bring.
There is never too much
food! A
good guideline is to bring enough food to feed you,
your cadet, and any guests who accompany you to the tailgate.
Check
the information on each tailgate to see what we are
planning. If you have questions about
appropriate foods or amounts of food, please contact info@armylaxparents.com.
A
reminder about tailgate etiquette.
Parents and
guests wait to start eating until the team has been
fed. We can start on the appetizers and beverages,
but we wait on the main courses. Also, the
sports drinks are reserved for the players only. Finally,
we
guarantee to our hosts that
we will return the venues to the condition they were
in prior to our tailgates. We
need your help in cleaning up after every tailgate
so we can honor this guarantee.
Away Game Tailgates
Diane Clark is coordinating away game
tailgates.
Parent volunteers who live near the away game
campuses work with Diane and our hosts to nail down venues
and identify local food sources. In total, we will
have a minimum eight away scrimmages and games, not including any Patriot League and NCAA
tournament games.
Some are night games at which we don't have
tailgates, but we still feed the team before it gets
on the busses for the ride home.
Please check the
2007 Schedule
to see what games may be near you and then call
Diane
if you can help.
Our first regular
season
weekend away day game is not until the end of March
at Colgate. However, we do have three night away
games before then that also will need coordinators:

Syracuse, Holy Cross, and Rutgers are
night games.
Typically, we do not stage elaborate tailgates for
friends and guests after such games. However,
ArmyLaxParents does provide food for
the players to take on the bus for the ride back to
West Point, so we need a local coordinator to help us find
appropriate local stores.
Parents are asked to bring water and sports
beverages and typically add easy-to-serve, portable, and minimally messy snacks (cookies or brownies work
great).
Remember that there will be little or no time for
socializing ... the mission is to get food into the
players' hands and get them on the bus quickly.
Check each games tailgate page above for any
departures from this policy.
The Colgate, Navy, Duke, and Ohio State games will
entail the full scale post game tailgates for which ArmyLaxParents are famous. Thus, we will need to
either secure indoor locations or bring tents,
grills, etc., etc., etc., appropriate to the season.
Two of the trips are formidable, though we're hoping
to get local West Point parent and alumni groups
help there ... as we will for Navy.
Home Game Tailgates
We need a parent volunteer to coordinate
home game
tailgates, which will be in
the A Room in the
East Stands of Michie Stadium
(Lusk Reservoir side).
This will be much more convenient for
parents, players, and guests since all home games
will be in Michie and the
A Room is only a few steps from where we will be
sitting. To get there, go to the south end of the
tunnel under the stands and climb the staircase on
your left as you face toward Kimsey.
The
A Room
does not have a kitchen, but it does have plenty of
power outlets for crock pots, hot plates, and other
electrical warming devices. Those who want to grill
will be able to do so outdoors near the
A Room.
It's best to take your food and equipment to the
A Room before
going to the game. Check each game's tailgate page
for details.
We need help
setting up before each tailgate and
cleaning up afterwards.
