  • LATEST CHRIS LARSEN '05 PROGRESS REPORT
Readers of this page will know that 1LT Christopher Larsen '05 was wounded in Iraq on Friday, August 17. Both his hands were injured seriously.
When visiting Ft. Hood on December 2, your editor was pleased to run into Chris and his wife Jessica, who had come up from Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio to welcome Ben Harrow and Chris Couch, both '05, home from Iraq (see story and photo at Army Lax Alumni).

Chris’s recovery is going very well and as you can see in the photo, he is as upbeat as anyone who knows him would expect. He still has another six to eight months of rehabilitation ahead of him, mostly at BAMC. Chris’s left hand has recovered essentially full function, though it is still weak and sore. His right hand and wrist are still healing from multiple surgeries and grafts. The prognosis is good. Although his range of motion is still very restricted, once the healing is completed he will begin regaining full use of the hand. It will be a long and painful process, but anyone who knows Chris knows he will succeed fully.

As regards Fischer House, Mark Larsen, Chris's dad, encourages everyone to consider making a donation. He writes that Fischer House, "... allows parents/spouses to stay next to the hospital ... without any financial worries ..." and "does so much to help these young hurt people get better quicker by allowing their families to be with them." Click on Fischer House to visit the foundation's website.

    • ARMY LAX PHOTOS
(2006) Don't forget that there are literally thousands of Army Lax photos at Photos. There is a link to ESQ Photography, a commercial photographer who attended the Air Force and Navy games this year and the Cornell and Bucknell games in 2005. Another link is to multiple albums from Laxphotos.com that include over a thousand shots from 2005 ... there are albums for both Navy games and the PL semifinal against Bucknell. I think the Laxphotos.com photographers caught anyone who got on the field at least once. There are also albums of Coach Emmer's Hall of Fame Induction and prior year Army-Navy and NCAA Tournament games. I am also trying to find time to post hundreds of shots taken by Scott Reppard this season.

    • ARMY LAX WRAPS UP FALL BALL AT YALE
The Army Lax family gathered on Sunday, October 16 in New Haven for the Yale Fall Classic, which marked the end of the team's formal fall ball program. Altogether, thirteen returning starters, returning regulars, and projected regulars missed the scrimmages due to injuries and other factors, so the coaches got long looks at many plebes and JVs from last spring. The future looks bright. It will be interesting to contrast the team's performance against UMass at Yale with the UMass scrimmage scheduled on February 11, 2006.

    • NEW ARMY LAX GAME PHOTOS PROCEDURE
In past years at the annual Army Lacrosse Awards Picnic, Army’s Sports Information Department and C.W. Pack Sports have had large folios of game photo proofs from which parents could order prints. These photos are only available to the athletes, their families, and the athletic department of each participating school.

This year, instead of the books of proofs and order forms at the picnic, C.W. Pack is making the photos available on their website,
www.cwpacksports.com. When you get there, click on SPRING 2005, scroll down to ARMY, and click on LACROSSE. The 2005 Army Lax photos are not up on the site yet, but C.W. Pack has asked that Army Lax Parents check back regularly until they are.

    • USMA BIDS EMMERS FAREWELL
(July 2005) On Friday, July 22, 2005 the USMA administration, the ODIA, and the West Point Community honored the Emmer family with an emotional gathering in the spectacular room atop the Kimsey Center, overlooking Michie Stadium and the Hudson River Valley. Hundreds attended, including many Army Lax parents from over the years. Spotted in the crowd were the Bryans, Roberts, Bartolottas, Mounces, Vlahakises, and Jim Wagner, Sr., among others.

Among the many awards presented to Coach Emmer were a framed Army major "A" and a Certificate of Excellence from Athletic Director Kevin Anderson; a cadet saber from the team; a framed #22 jersey, signifying his 22 years at Army, from the Army Lacrosse staff; and a framed print of Washington Hall, the Plain, and the Cadet Chapel from his ODIA co-workers. Coach Emmer also had numerous awards of his own to present ... some of them even serious.

Army Lax Parents, current and past, presented the Emmers with a USMA rocking chair (shipped directly to their Skaneateles house). Click on this thumbnail to see this photo of the presentation full-size; then use your web browser's Back button to return to this page.

The chair arrived in one piece and Coach Emmer wrote to extend his and Joan’s "sincere thanks to all who made the chair gift possible."

Army Lacrosse is in good hands, but Joan, Megan, Patrick, and Coach ... it just won't be the same without you.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.

And rains fall soft upon your fields.
    And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Coach Emmer will retire to his house in Skaneateles, NY after twenty-two years at Army. He plans to spend more time with his family than the hectic schedule of a D-1 coach allows. He may even contrive to coach his son Patrick, who enters high school in the fall.

Speaking as a 2005 Army Lax Parent -- and I'm sure on behalf of hundreds of former Army lacrosse players and Army Lax Parents -- thanks, Coach, for a great ride! Thanks too to Army's number one, two, and three fans, Joan, Megan, and Patrick Emmer. It just won't be the same without you in the stands. Good Luck and Godspeed, Coach!
